Cyprus Life

Cyprus Island

Cyprus boasts one of the healthiest climates in the world, with over 340 days of sunshine per year. Summer daytime temperatures average 33oC and in the winter 17 oC. In the early months of the year there is snow on the Troodos mountains with skiing facilities available. The native language is Greek, but Cyprus was once a British colony and around 80% of the population also speak English.

All foreign nationals are made to feel very welcome whether tourists or permanent residents, as all are seen as a boost to the country's economy.

Driving is on the left, and all road signs are written in both Greek and English so getting around is very simple.

Cyprio
ts are very proud of their cuisine and the variety of colourful fruit and vegetables produced from the land. The traditional Cypriot meal is 'mezedes', a variety of different courses including dips and salads, grilled meats, fish and cheese and a selection of dishes cooked in the oven. Many international restaurants are also available, including Italian, French, Indian and Japanese, and even Pizza Hut and McDonald's.

Most supermarkets will stock a wide selection of UK products as well as local goods.

The cost of living in Cyprus is relatively low and it is very possible to live comfortably on a moderate income.

The crime rate in Cyprus is very low, only around 1/6 of the crime rate in the rest of Europe. The lifestyle is very relaxed, which is what attracts many people to retire here or simply make the move from their own hectic way of life!
